Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club celebrates another successful duck race.

Thumbnail DSC 5812
The tide was low when the sun dipped down beyond the horizon, leaving the mudflats and salt marsh, usually an ideal habitat for wading birds and wildfowl, clearly visible. Nevertheless, after a 30 minute delay to the start of the race, 750 numbered ducks (plastic they were!) were encouraged to enter the, slowly rising, Cresswell River for Narberth & Whitland Rotary's annual Duck Race and Pig Roast.
The winners were .... 1st place, Kathryn Messenger, a visitor down from north of England (and still at the Quay for the finish), 2nd prize was Arthur Towns, all the way from America, and 3rd was our very own David Haward. Thanks to the Kayakers who collected the ducks in the setting sun the winners had been declared.
Music was provided by Jack Castle who, once again treated us all to a virtuoso performance of guitar playing culminating in a truly spectacular rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”. Many thanks Jack!
The RNLI attended ... there wasn't enough water to float a boat .... however, they raised "£140 from their stall and met new supporters too, which is priceless!" Well done Daphne!
Pork roast was enjoyed thanks to Jon James & son butchers and a varied platter of vegetarian fayre was also served. Washed down by the ales served by the staff at Cresselly Arms, the evening of ice cream, fun, food and frolics was enjoyed by young and old.
