Thanks to donations, Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, was able to provide funding to support baking activities at Withybush Hospital’s Ward 12.
The funding enabled the ward to purchase items such as cooking ingredients for patients living with dementia, which enhanced their experience and wellbeing.
Patients were encouraged to make cakes and benefited from having some independence as well as taking part in the fun activities.
Zoe Griffiths, Senior Sister, Ward 12, said: “We are so grateful that charitable donations supported these activities on the ward. Cooking is of great benefit to the patients as it is a good stimulating activity, which will stimulate the senses as well as improve appetite.
“As well as this, cooking can also bring back old memories the patients may have and keep the brain active as it involves weighing and measuring.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
