Ysgol Ger y Llan praised by Estyn for its ‘happy, caring and inclusive community’
The Ysgol Ger y Llan community is delighted to welcome the school’s recent report, which highlights a wide range of strengths and recognises the dedication of pupils, staff, leaders, governors and the wider school community.
At the heart of the report is its description of Ysgol Ger y Llan as a “happy, caring and inclusive community”, where nearly all pupils behave well, treat others with respect and feel safe and fairly treated.
The report praises the interesting and exciting learning experiences provided by teachers, which inspire pupils to fulfil the school’s motto “to do their very best.”
The school’s balanced and engaging curriculum is firmly rooted in the local area, helping pupils to develop a strong sense of identity as citizens of their community, Wales and the wider world.
The school is particularly proud of the recognition given to the Welsh language and Welsh identity. Staff make the most of opportunities to promote Welsh throughout school life, while recent work to develop pupils’ spoken Welsh has had a “very positive impact” on their skills across the school.
Another notable strength is the “highly effective collaboration” between teachers and teaching assistants. The report recognises the positive impact this has on pupils’ progress and the “lovely sense of community” within the school. Through engaging activities and imaginative learning experiences, most pupils demonstrate “enthusiasm, independence and a natural eagerness to learn.”
The report also praises the school’s experienced leadership, effective support from governors and strong provision for pupils with additional learning needs.

“To be described as a happy, caring and inclusive community means a great deal to us. We are particularly pleased that the report recognises our pupils’ enthusiasm for learning, the exceptional teamwork of our staff, and our commitment to the Welsh language, our values and our local community.
“The report gives us a great deal to celebrate, while also identifying areas where we can continue to develop. We will build on our strengths and, in keeping with our school motto, continue to ‘do our very best’ for every pupil.
