Public surveys shaping roads policing operations.

DPP Webp

Surveys submitted on Dyfed-Powys Connects are being combined with collision data and local intelligence to shape roads policing operations.

Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Teams (NPPT), Roads Policing Units (RPU), and GoSafe, are using a joint approach to tackle road safety issues raised by the public. Concerns raised on Dyfed-Powys Connects, combined with collision data and local intelligence, is reviewed in monthly meetings. This leads to targeted road safety operations.

They’re focused on speeding, drink/drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and using your phone whilst driving. People have also raised concerns for anti-social driving.
NPPT and RPU will be stopping offending motorists during operations and using a combination of roadside engagement and enforcement.

Drivers will be given the option of free roadside engagement or a fixed penalty. This is currently a £100 on the spot fine for a seat belt offence or £100 and 3 points on your licence for a speeding offence. People not engaging with officers or exceeding the speed limit to a greater degree will not be eligible for an engagement session and will be prosecuted.

GoSafe will be assisting with targeted enforcement in the surrounding areas. Offences recorded by GoSafe will result an educational course or fixed penalty, depending on eligibility.

Chief Inspector Dominic Jones, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “The information people give us through Dyfed-Powys Connects is invaluable. It lets our teams get into the heart of communities struggling with these issues.
“Connects is opening a new way for us to talk directly with people and have conversations that shape what our officers are doing.

“The more we get from people on Dyfed-Powys Connects, the more we can target this behaviour and make our roads safer for everyone.”
