Property Fire in St David's
Crews responded to a fire within a three-storey property consisting of a mixture of commercial and residential properties. The fire was confined to a laundry room on the property’s first floor.
Crews utilised six breathing apparatus sets, three hose reel jets, thermal imaging cameras and a turntable ladder appliance to extinguish the fire. After extinguishing the fire, crews were involved in removing debris from the laundry room to avoid re-ignition.
The fire is believed to have started in a tumble dryer in the laundry room
This incident has highlighted the effectiveness of keeping doors closed within a property, as the closed doors prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the property.
White Goods Safety
Following this incident, MAWWFRS is issuing a reminder on white goods safety:
NEVER leave appliances unattended - don’t turn your washing machine or tumble dryer on before you leave the house or go to bed. These appliances contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that get very hot.
Don’t overload your tumble dryer or put in items that have been used to soak up flammable liquids including cooking oil.
Don’t ignore warning signs - if you can smell burning or have clothes that feel hotter at the end of the cycle, have your appliance checked by a professional.
