Partnership approaches to support a sustainable future for Pembrokeshire’s coast were explored during the Council Leader’s visit to Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum last week.
Cllr Tessa Hodgson, Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, met the PCF team on Wednesday, to learn more about their work to protect Pembrokeshire’s coastal environment and explore opportunities for closer partnership working.
Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum is a Community Interest Company working to support a sustainable coast and ocean for future generations.
It brings together communities, businesses, public bodies, researchers and other organisations to develop and deliver practical responses to coastal challenges and opportunities.
Cllr Hodgson said: “It was great to hear about the wide range of work being undertaken by Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum and the positive contribution it makes to our county.
“From developing opportunities in marine energy and supporting young people into future careers, to tackling climate change and improving water quality, there are clear opportunities for the Council and the forum to work together for the benefit of Pembrokeshire.”
She added: “Working together with organisations such as this gives us an opportunity to share expertise, develop practical solutions and ensure that environmental improvements go hand in hand with opportunities for our communities and local businesses.”
Key topics discussed during the visit included marine renewable energy and the potential to create local jobs and skills opportunities, climate change adaptation, education and training, sustainable outdoor recreation, and improving water quality through better land management.
Jetske Germing, PCF’s Managing Director said: “We welcomed the opportunity to discuss our work with Cllr Hodgson.
“Partnership working is essential to addressing the challenges facing our coastline. By bringing together local knowledge, expertise and resources, we can develop solutions that protect Pembrokeshire’s natural environment while supporting resilient communities, sustainable businesses and opportunities for future generations.”
