River Teifi Search Update
UPDATE | A police search of the River Teifi in Cardigan will continue over the weekend, as officers look for a man who entered the water during the early hours of Sunday, January 4.
Dyfed-Powys Police officers have been joined by colleagues from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, RNLI, and HM Coastguard in searching the waterway and river banks over the past five days.
The man is believed to be 30-year-old Kurtis Brook, and officers remain in close contact with his family to ensure they are updated and supported.
Despite the large scale search, the man has not been located.
Due to the nature of the operation, and the time that has passed since the last sighting, the multi-agency aspect of the response will be stood down, and the ongoing search will be carried out by Dyfed-Powys Police.
Chief Inspector Richard Yelland said: “Sadly, the search so far has not resulted in the outcome we were hoping for, and we have communicated this to Kurtis’s family.
“We, as a force, are committed to finding Kurtis, and will continue to do all we can in the coming days to bring him home. While this ongoing search will be carried out independently by our officers, we assure that we have the capabilities to search on the water with the assistance of our marine unit, on foot along the river banks, and from the air using drones.
“These specialist units will be brought in when appropriate, by officers who are trained in managing searches.
“Over the past few days we have also coordinated volunteer searches, and we are grateful to those who have adhered to our search parameters. This goes to show how close-knit the community is in Cardigan, and we know that the family has taken comfort in knowing how much they are supported.
“We remind those looking to help that there are risks in carrying out independent searches, and that if there are safe areas that can be searched, we will communicate this.
“Your cooperation will help to keep you safe and respect the search operation.”
