As County Councillor for the Castle Ward, it was lovely to call into the The VC Gallery and speak to Barry John about the current art display at the gallery entitled “Reflections” which is a collection of Oil paintings by Narberth born artist Edgar Thomas (1862 - 1936).

The Pembrokeshire County Art Collection holds the largest publicly owned collection of works by Edgar Thomas in Wales.
Edgar Thomas was chosen by the Welsh Nationalist movement Cymru
Fydd (Young Wales) as one of the Welsh artists who would represent the movement through the arts.
Unfortunately, Thomas' promising career was relegated to obscurity by the rise of another Welsh artist from Pembrokeshire, who held an important exhibition in London just weeks before Thomas' was due to open. This artist was Augustus John.
Thomas was fascinated by chiaroscuro - the contrast of light and shade. Many of his works display a great technical skill and delicate brushwork in creating this contrast in oils.
