Tenby declared ‘no drone zone’ for Ironman Wales weekend

Parts of Tenby will become a temporary ‘no drone zone’ this weekend as thousands of competitors and spectators descend on the town for Ironman Wales.

Dyfed-Powys Police has confirmed that a temporary flight restriction will be introduced over the town as part of the policing operation surrounding the major sporting event.

The restriction specifically affects drones and means it will be an offence for an unmanned aircraft to fly below 2,000 feet above sea level within the designated area without explicit permission from Dyfed-Powys Police.

Warning notices have been placed around Tenby, including in the vicinity of North Beach, where the swimming section of Ironman Wales begins.

The airspace restriction will come into force at 5am on Saturday, September 12, and remain in place until 1am on Monday, September 14.

The measure is being introduced to help ensure public safety during one of Pembrokeshire’s biggest annual sporting events.
