Tenby hosts successful Phantom Class National Championships

Tenby Sailing Club has hosted a successful four days of racing as the Phantom Class National Championships came to Pembrokeshire.

A total of 51 sailors competed in ten races across the four-day event, with competitors facing exciting conditions and challenging tidal flows through Tenby Bay.

Rob Richardson, sailing for Ovington Boats, was crowned national champion, ahead of Harry Briddon of Ogston Sailing Club in second and Jon Riickard of Hooe Point Sailing Club in third.

Ben Dancer, who also sails at Tenby, secured an impressive fourth-place finish.

Tenby sailor Jon Nuttall endured a difficult championship after breaking his mast during race two. He was only able to compete in three races and finished 39th overall, while Saundersfoot’s James Hayden finished in 30th place.

Tenby and Saundersfoot members Dave Griffiths and Maurice Clarke were also recently in action at the Osprey National Championships at Mounts Bay, finishing 14th from a fleet of 45 in Osprey 1365, Carpé Diem.

Tenby Sailing Club thanked race officer Nigel Denchfield and the team of volunteers who helped make the Phantom championships a successful four days of racing.
