Fishguard market celebrates its first birthday after raising £5,404.80

The Craft, Collectables & Curios Market at Fishguard Town Hall is celebrating its first birthday on Saturday, 10 October, marking 12 months of supporting local traders, bringing people together and raising money for good causes.

Organised by Julie McAdam, Lynda Thompson and Deana Macdonnall, the non-profit market gives local makers and traders somewhere to showcase their products, while providing a friendly, welcoming place for people to shop and meet.

The organisers’ aim is to support small businesses, encourage visitors into the town and give something back to the community through a different charity or community group each month.

During its first year, the market has raised £5,404.80 altogether — £4,828.80 for charities and community groups, plus £576 towards market banners.

Those supported include Tŷ Hafan, Fishguard & Goodwick Animal Welfare, the Royal British Legion, Fishguard Thunderbolts, Fishguard Sea Cadets, Transition Bro Gwaun, Paul Sartori, Rainbows, Sea Trust, RNLI Fishguard Lifeboat and 2nd Goodwick Brownies. A celebration poster details the organisations helped and the individual amounts raised. October’s fundraising supports Pembrokeshire Badger Group.

The organisers thank all the traders, visitors, volunteers and supporters who have helped make the first year possible, along with Tesco Goodwick for supporting refreshments and helping more money go towards good causes.

The birthday celebration takes place at Fishguard Town Hall on Saturday, 10 October, from 10am to 3pm, with cake from Lou Lou’s Cakes, traders in fancy dress and a hall full of crafts, collectables, curios and gifts.

Everyone is welcome to come along and celebrate a year of community support. Entry is free, and dogs are welcome.
