Eluned Morgan Visits Whitland to Thank Emergency Responders and Witness Recovery Efforts

Senedd Member for Mid and West Wales, Eluned Morgan, has visited St Davids Avenue in Whitland to see first hand the recovery efforts following the severe flooding that hit the town earlier this week.

The flooding, described as a 1 in 75 year event, was caused by intense rainfall of around 120 mm over 48 hours, combined with high tides, leading to widespread disruption, damage to homes and serious impacts on local businesses.

During her visit, Eluned met with affected residents, volunteers, emergency services and council officials, listening to their concerns and witnessing the effects of the damage.

Eluned Morgan MS said:

“The scale of the damage here is truly shocking. Homes have been flooded, businesses disrupted, and people left facing the long process of recovery.

 What’s been remarkable, though, is the strength of the community - neighbours helping neighbours and local services pulling together in extraordinary circumstances.

 I want to thank everyone involved in the response, from our emergency teams and the county council to the many community volunteers. And I want to pay particular thanks to Cllr Sue Allen, who worked tirelessly to run the town hall evacuation centre and support residents throughout this incredibly difficult time.

It’s vital that what’s happened here is carefully reviewed, so that every possible step can be taken to strengthen Whitland’s resilience in the future."
