Crymych FC strengthened their position at the top of Division 1 with a hard-earned 3–2 victory over second-placed Newcastle Emlyn in an entertaining encounter on Saturday.
The visitors made the brighter start and were handed two opportunities from the penalty spot inside the opening 25 minutes. Samuel Brook converted both, the first awarded in contentious circumstances, while the second left little room for complaint.
Crymych responded with determination and reduced the deficit in the 28th minute through Sion Vaughan, whose well-taken finish restored belief among the home support.
On the stroke of half-time, parity was achieved when Rhodri George calmly dispatched a penalty to level the match at 2–2. George struck again five minutes into the second half, seizing on a chance inside the area to put Crymych in front for the first time.
From then on, the league leaders managed the game with composure, though they went close to extending their advantage when Ross McDonald’s effort struck the crossbar.
Crymych held firm to claim a vital three points to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Attention now turns to this weekend’s cup tie against Maesglas, with confidence high following another impressive display.
