Rotary volunteers support Saundersfoot sporting weekend

Saundersfoot Rotary volunteers played their part in a huge weekend of sport in the village, helping with everything from marshalling to the post-event clean-up.

Eleven members of the club volunteered at the Saundersfoot Triathlon on Friday, September 11, joining other marshals to assist with the safe running of the event.

Their efforts continued during Ironman weekend, with ten Rotary members joining forces with Saundersfoot Wombles on Sunday, September 13.

The clean-up was organised through a joint initiative involving the Saundersfoot Rotary Environment Team and Saundersfoot Wombles, with volunteers working alongside Pembrokeshire County Council.

By the end of the operation, 47 sacks filled with bottles, cans and other rubbish had been collected, with the waste set to be recycled wherever possible.

Ray Wise, President of Saundersfoot Rotary, said: “We would like to thank everyone who came along to support the athletes. The cooperation of the crowds and the positive atmosphere throughout the weekend made our job much easier and contributed to the success of both events.

“The determination, courage and achievements demonstrated by all the competitors were truly inspiring. It was a privilege to witness their efforts and to play a small part in supporting these fantastic events.”

The weekend brought competitors and supporters to Saundersfoot for both events, with the Rotary Club pleased to help during the sporting action and with the clean-up that followed.
