Urdd eisteddfods receive £2,500 funding boost

Regional Urdd eisteddfods across West and South Wales are set to benefit from a £2,500 donation from Persimmon Homes.

The funding has been awarded to Urdd Gobaith Cymru through the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme and will support events taking place early next year in Pembrokeshire, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot.

The cheque was presented at Yr Egin in Carmarthen, with county councillors Emlyn Schiavone and Tyssul Evans attending.

Founded in 1922, Urdd Gobaith Cymru provides opportunities for children and young people to use and learn Welsh through a wide range of activities.

Its work includes sport, community and youth activities, the arts, residential experiences, apprenticeships, training and volunteering. Over the past century, more than 4.5 million young people in Wales have benefited from the organisation.

“Persimmon has a significant presence in the region where the eisteddfods we are funding are taking place and we hope to see many of our present and future residents in attendance.”

Persimmon Homes distributes £48,000 annually to good causes in Wales through its Community Champions programme, with a number of local organisations and community groups receiving support.
