Nine-Year-Old Boy Leads Fundraising Campaign to Spread Message of Inclusion and Empowerment ahead of World Down Syndrome Day

A nine-year-old boy from Pembrokeshire is helping to spread an important message of inclusion and empowerment ahead of World Down Syndrome Day this Saturday.

Wilson, who has Down syndrome, has already raised more than £9,000 for charities through a series of fundraising “missions” and awareness campaigns shared on his social media page, Instagram (@Wilsonprettyflyforasmallguy). His efforts focus on promoting inclusion, challenging perceptions, and celebrating difference.

Now, Wilson has been selected for the second time to take part in Project Empowerment, an initiative led by Stand Out Socks. The project gives individuals across the UK the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills by selling socks provided to them—while raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day.

This year, 21 participants have each been given 100 pairs of socks to sell, keeping the proceeds they raise.

Wilson is using his opportunity to support not only the wider cause but also his local community. He has invited his football team, the Clarby Warriors, to join him in the initiative. The inclusive Pembrokeshire-based club, run entirely by volunteers, provides weekly training sessions and vital social support for its players.

Funds raised through Wilson’s sock sales will go towards much-needed equipment and a gazebo for the team to use at tournaments. For many involved, the club is more than just football—it is a lifeline and a strong support network.

Project Empowerment aims to build confidence, create opportunities, and make lasting memories, showing that small actions can lead to meaningful change.

Wilson is now encouraging the public to support his mission by purchasing a pair of socks and wearing them on March 21 to celebrate inclusion and raise awareness.
