The Bluestone Foundation is backing the Pembroke Dock Heritage Trust’s 1940’s Big Band Night on Saturday June 21st in a big way, with great raffle prizes and the appearance of the magnificently restored 1920’s Guy Motors Bus.

The Bluestone prizes are:

1, An overnight spa break for two in a Bluestone Resorts studio apartment

2, A family ticket to Blue Lagoon Water Park

3, A £50 voucher to Black Pool Mill restaurant

Making an appearance is Bluestone CEO William McNamara’s ‘Guy’ Bus which is 103-years-old, dating from 1922. It will be joined by at least two wartime Jeeps – iconic vehicles from wartime.

Other raffle prizes are a Tutored Watercolour Painting Experience for two, courtesy of the A. J. Ludlow Colours Watercolour Painting Café of Pembroke Dock, and a framed print of a famous Sunderland flying boat from the Heritage Centre.

The dance, recapturing the memorable ‘Glenn Miller’ sounds and songs of the 1940s, will stage in the Pembroke Port Pavilion (PPP) marquee alongside the Western Hangar in the Royal Dockyard, Pembroke Dock, sponsored by the Port of Milford Haven. Performing will be the Phil Dando Big Band; Vera Lynn tribute singer Peri Lynn, and the Pembrokeshire Lindy Hoppers dance group. Street food providers will be attending.

Proceeds will help fund the return of the RAF Pembroke Dock Memorial Window to the town, 80 years after it was first dedicated in what is now the Heritage Centre building. For the last 30 years the Window has been on display at the RAF Museum in London.

Tickets, at £25, are available from the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre (Tel 01646 684220) and online from Eventbrite. This is a never to be repeated opportunity to capture the ‘wartime spirit’.
