HISTORIC TENBY HOME SEEKS HOLIDAY LET GO-AHEAD

Gwynne House, the Grade-II listed seafront property in Tenby said to have inspired Victorian novelist George Eliot, is at the centre of an ongoing planning application.

The owner is seeking permission to continue using part of the historic property as a self-contained holiday let.

The house, which overlooks Tenby harbour, is one of a pair of early 19th-century homes and sits within the town’s conservation area.

A plaque on the property states that George Eliot, the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, was inspired to write her debut novel after staying at Gwynne House in 1857.

The current owner bought the property in 2021, when it was already being used as a holiday let, and says the use continued following refurbishment.

The ongoing application is now being considered by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with a decision to be made at a later date.
