JAILED | Man jailed for domestic assault and two counts of assault police

Whilst responding to a report of domestic assault at an address in Glebelands, Hakin at approx. 7.30pm on November 20, 2025.

PC160 Thomas and PC1338 Jones were assaulted whilst they were trying to execute a lawful arrest. 30-year-old Alexander Campbell from Church Terrace, Monkton was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of ABH for the domestic assault, one count of GBH for assault police, and another count of ABH for assault police. The victim of the domestic assault sustained a facial injury and swelling to her eye, PC160 Thomas sustained a laceration to her temple requiring stitches, and PC1338 sustained bruising and swelling.

Campbell appeared in Swansea Crown Court on 17 December for sentencing following a guilty plea. He was sentenced as follows:

1 GBH (against PC160 Thomas) – 2 years’ imprisonment

1 ABH (domestic assault) – 12 months imprisonment concurrent

1 ABH (against PC1338 Jones) - 12 months concurrent

He was also in breach of a suspended sentence and was sentenced to a further 6 months consecutive for this offence.

Temporary Superintendent Louise Harries said: “These officers were responding to a call to help a domestic violence victim, and their focus was on protecting that victim and bringing the offender to justice. No one should go to work fearing they will be assaulted, especially when they are working hard to keep others safe. This was a violent attack on officers simply doing their job. We welcome the outcome at court and the custodial sentence which will protect the victim from further harm. It also reiterates the point that assaults on emergency service workers will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly.”
