As fuel prices have increased and some households already facing supply issues due to the war in Iran

As fuel prices have increased and some households already facing supply issues due to the war in Iran, Plaid Cymru candidates set out how a Plaid Cymru government would support families across
Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion with household costs.
With Ceredigion Preseli having the highest number of homes off the gas grid in Britain, Plaid Cymru MP, Ben Lake has already called on the UK Government to give urgent real and immediate support to protect rural off-gas homes.

Rising energy costs are only part of household costs. Childcare costs in Wales are currently some of the highest in the UK. A Plaid Cymru Government would cut costs for families by introducing the most ambitious and generous childcare offer in the history of devolution, helping parents to save over £30,000 in the first few years of their son or daughter’s life.

A Plaid Cymru Government would commit to expanding free school meals to all secondary school pupils in households claiming Universal Credit, with no income limit, from September 2026. It would also help households cut home energy bills through a programme to improve Welsh homes.

As Plaid Cymru Candidate for Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, Anna Nicholl said:
“A Plaid Cymru led government would put in place real support for families in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. We have already set out the actions we would take within our first 100 days in Government if Plaid Cymru was to be voted in government in the May election.
This plan includes bringing forward plans to expand funded care hours to children aged 9 months to 2 years, expand free school meals to secondary school pupils in need, and improve home energy efficiency for more households, faster.”
