A Plaid Cymru MP has criticised Nigel Farage for failing to challenge conspiracy theories linking paracetamol to autism, with the Reform UK leader alluding to the thalidomide scandal. Llinos Medi MP described his comments as “shameful”.

The Reform UK leader was asked by Nick Ferrari on LBC whether the US president was right to make the link, which UK health officials have discredited.

He replied: "I have no idea … you know, we were told thalidomide was a very safe drug and it wasn't. Who knows, Nick, I don't know."

Asked if he would side with medical experts who say there is no evidence for the link, Mr Farage said: "I wouldn't, when it comes to science, I don't side with anybody… because science is never settled, and we should remember that."

Mr Farage added: "That's an opinion he's got. It's not one that I necessarily share. But I mean, honestly, I've no idea."

Reform UK is courting American donors, including MAGA supporters and religious conservatives, to influence its policy agenda.

Ms Medi said that Farage “clearly values his donors more than mothers”.

Llinos Medi, MP for Ynys Mon, said that

“Nigel Farage’s refusal to correct Trump’s false claims linking paracetamol and autism is shameful.

“Comparing a safe painkiller to the thalidomide scandal will only add stress for pregnant women, who are already under enough pressure without reckless fearmongering. Farage clearly values his donors more than mothers.

“We in Wales must reject this dangerous fact-free politics.”
