Hi all

It is not too late (just about) to plant up your pots for a Spring display. The ‘Bulb Lasagne’ is failsafe way to get a lovely succession of Spring flowers in just one pot!

How it’s done !

Plant a spring bulb ‘lasagne’ in October or November, preferably before the first frost so that the bulbs can settle, for a layered spring display by starting with around 9cm of compost in a large pot (ideally around 40cm in height and diameter).

Then, add your deepest layer of bulbs at the bottom, then repeat with each layer of bulbs until they are all in place.

Each layer will bloom in succession, giving colour and scent throughout Spring.

Plant the bulbs at three times their own depth and two widths apart.

Press down the compost around each bulb gently.

Keep the faded foliage afterwards for about six weeks so that the bulbs can re-energise for next year.

Don’t forget to water them from time to time. Bulbs in pots need more watering and caring for with feeding, than bulbs planted straight into the ground.

(1) 8 to 10 x Daffodils
