Local Engineering Student Awarded South Hook Scholarship

Former Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi student Henry Raymond is the latest recipient of South Hook LNG’s £5000 Scholarship Award.

Currently in his second year of a five-year Chemical and Environmental Engineering degree at Nottingham University, Henry not only demonstrated excellent academic performance, but a strong work ethic and a clear interest in the role of engineering in the energy sector.

With the aim of supporting local students to excel in their chosen field of study, the South Hook Scholarship is given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement and long-term career goals. Along with a written application, the process also involves an informal interview and demonstrates South Hook’s ongoing commitment to supporting the educational development of local students.

Invited to receive his Award at South Hook earlier this year, Henry was presented with a certificate and £5000, which will contribute to student costs over the remainder of his studies.

“I’m very grateful to South Hook to have received this award, the financial support will make a huge difference to life as a student and it’s incredible to have this kind of backing from a major player in the energy industry.” said Henry.

Commenting on the Awards, South Hook LNG’s General Manager, Hamad Al Samra said, “We are pleased to have once again received applications from so many committed and capable young people.

The team involved in the selection process at South Hook were particularly impressed by Henry’s dedication and commitment to his chosen subject. We are pleased to offer our support and wish him the very best in his future studies.”

South Hook LNG’s Scholarship Programme encourages applications from local students seeking higher education in engineering, science or business-related disciplines. Details for how to apply for the 2026/2027 Award will be available on the Company’s website during September.
