Discover your local library this National Reading Week

The Pembrokeshire public is being invited to discover their local library during Welsh Public Libraries National Reading Week, running today (Monday) to Saturday 3 October 2026.

Public libraries across Wales are celebrating the vital role they play in supporting reading and providing welcoming and accessible spaces for people to explore books, access computers and e-resources, develop skills and connect with their local community.

They build on a range of events held over the last couple of months, which included the Summer Reading Challenge activities and talks for several school classes.

The range of events being held include author talks, rhyme-time sessions and plenty of other community events, such as Knit and Natter, Lego Clubs, Book Groups and much more!

The events are free and are designed to help inspire people to discover the joy and benefits of reading and to foster a sense of belonging.

Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, Cllr Rhys Sinnett, said: “It’s great that Pembrokeshire Libraries are taking part and highlighting the sort of activities they offer throughout the year.

“Regular groups meeting in the library help encourage repeat visits, which is a cause for celebration. The importance of libraries in literacy and encouraging reading for pleasure, for all ages, should not be under-estimated.”

Reading Week is part of the wider UK National Year of Reading 2026, which aims to encourage people of all ages to develop a love of reading for pleasure and benefit from the positive impact it can have on their education, well-being, creativity and lifelong learning.

Reading is encouraged in all forms – books, e-books, audio books, storytelling and more.
