Haverfordwest County set for USA trip after securing Taith funding
Haverfordwest County AFC will head stateside next year after securing funding for an international learning and cultural experience in Pennsylvania.
Support from Taith, Wales’ international learning exchange programme, will enable up to 16 participants to take part in the visit, which will combine sport, culture and the historic links between Pembrokeshire and the US state.
The group will explore connections between the two areas, including Pennsylvania communities sharing familiar Pembrokeshire names such as Haverford, St David’s and Narberth.
Participants will also get an insight into American sporting culture, with opportunities to visit sporting venues and arenas and compare the US sporting experience with that in Wales.
The programme will include meeting young people, community groups and organisations in Pennsylvania, while giving those taking part the chance to develop their confidence, independence and communication skills and represent both the club and Pembrokeshire internationally.
Haverfordwest County has already developed links with Pennsylvania. Historian Stephen Pierce, from Haverford in the US, previously visited the Dynamite Bridge Meadow Stadium and appeared on the club’s Bluebirds Nest podcast to discuss the historical connections between the two communities.
The club thanked Taith for supporting the project and said it is looking forward to heading to the United States next year.
