Local Artist Of The Week - VOODOO ARMPIT

Laotw (2)

Time for another Archive LAOTW!

Husband and wife, Richie & Arleen Westmacott of Tenby, are legends of the Pembrokeshire Music scene. Not for nothing is Richie known as the "Godfather of Pembrokeshire Rock" and Arleen is a member of the Beddis family, many of whom are or have been active on the local scene - including Country musician Josh Beddis and drummer Jack Beddis who has played with Paulo Nuttini and others.

Richie & Arleen have been performing as Ella Guru for a long time (BB Skone hosted their 25th anniversary party last year when former band members joined them on stage). Their son, Kristian, has been playing with them the past few years. But they are also veterans of several rock bands, most of which had crazy names chosen by Richie - such as Elephant Gerald and Kangaroo Airforce Generator.

This week we feature one such band, Voodoo Armpit, and songs from their self-penned album, The Theory of Evolution Part II, released in 1999. It is a powerful and inventive collection of tracks that encompasses reggae and ska and still sounds fresh today.

Richie & Arleen have always encouraged youngsters to get a foot on the musical ladder and Voodoo Armpit were no exception as the band featured Gareth & Iestyn Sandhu on bass and drums, Ben Woollacott on percussion, and long time pal David Robinson on keys.
