PRACTICAL IDEAS ON BIG SOCIETAL ISSUES
--
Sometimes it feels as if nothing is going right in the world. COVID and its resurgence, the cost of living crisis, and the threats posed by climate change are all interacting in ways to cause worry and put pressure on individuals, families and communities. Despite the doom and gloom that surrounds us we do have much to celebrate in Pembrokeshire.
We know that at a time of crisis communities will rally around to support and protect one another. There are over a thousand active community organisations and groups in our County! We also know that neighbourliness is strong and communities will organise themselves quickly to ensure that no one falls though the net. This is helped by the big organisations working together to make sound decisions on the use of resources that support wellbeing at the locality level.
Together for Change is organising events to bring the people of Pembrokeshire together to discuss:
• some of the big challenges facing our communities;
• the power of communities to control their destinies;
• care and support in the home;
• climate change and the cost of living crisis.
Online Events are taking place from 1630 on:
Tuesday 1 November – Perspectives on Community Power
Thursday 10 November – My Home, my Haven
Wednesday 16 November – Tackling the climate emergency – ideas for community action
Tuesday 22 November - From surviving to thriving – seeking radical solutions
The series will culminate with an in-person workshop at 1630 – Community Power and the Wellbring Economy on Thursday 8 December at HaverHub in Haverfordwest.
Confirmed panelists across the events include Sue Denman, Together for Change; Joe Sarling, New Local; Sue Leonard, PAVS; Elaine Lorton, HDUHB; Chris Johnes, Building Communities Trust; Rachel Lewis, Activist; Lee James, PLANED; Lesley Robertson-Steel, Solva Care; Jane Davidson, University of Wales Trinity St David; Cris Tomos, PLANED; Jeremy Wadia, Ecodewi; Debbie Johnson, PACTO; Cleo Goodman, Universal Basic Income; Kathryn Newman, Child Poverty Action Group; Lynne Turner, Mount Community Centre, Milford Haven; Neil Prior, County Councillor, PCC; Jessie Buchanan, Together for Change; and Cwm Arian.
Jessie Buchanan, Coordinator of Together for Change said:
“These events, four online and one in person, are designed to give people, from all walks of life, a chance to discuss the big challenges that face us now, and in the future, and to share solutions that can make life easier for all. We have some exciting speakers lined up to inspire everyone with examples of initiatives that work and can make a real difference to people’s lives.”
The programme of events is called ‘Ideas Unlimited’ and it is just that. All ideas that are put forward will be captured, shared and seriously considered to help our population. All welcome.
