At 9.35pm on Saturday, February 11th, crews from Fishguard, St David’s, Haverfordwest, Crymych, Milford Haven, Carmarthen and Neath were called to an incident at Fishguard Port.
The Stena Europe ferry from Fishguard to Ireland had developed an engine fire approximately 1 nautical mile from Fishguard Port. The cargo and passenger ferry had a total of 149 persons on board, all of whom were accounted for and unhurt.
On the ship’s return to the port, it was identified that the fire in the engine room had been extinguished by the ship’s crew and that the fire had spread to the ship’s funnel. Crews assisted with thermal scanning of the engine room and funnel areas with thermal imaging camera equipment.
The Police, Ambulance Service, Air Ambulance, RNLI and Coastguard including Coastguard helicopter were also in attendance.
Crews left the scene at 12.25am on Sunday, February 12th.
