The Easter holidays will be action-packed in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with family fun for everyone at the Park Authority’s three visitor attractions – Carew Castle and Tidal Mill, Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and Oriel y Parc, National Park Discovery Centre, in St Davids.
Carew Castle will be holding the Easter Chick Challenge between Saturday 23 March and Sunday 14 April, with a yummy prize available to those who find the Easter chicks hidden around the Castle. The cost of taking part is £2 per child and normal admission fees apply.
Also returning are Carew’s ever-popular Horrid Histories sessions, featuring gory stories, terrible tales and revolting reports about Castle life. Included free with admission, these fun, interactive talks for the younger generation will take place at 11am on weekdays between 25 March and 5 April. Children must be accompanied.
Bringing in Easter with a bang, the Launch of the Giant Trebuchet at Carew will take place at 2.30pm on Tuesday 2 April. Watch as the power of this ingenious weapon of siege is unleashed and learn how huge stones (along with other nightmarish payloads) were flung with enough force to breach even the strongest of fortifications.
For those looking for a spellbinding Easter event, join The School of Wizards and Witches Magic Academy at 1pm on 3, 4 and 5 April. Perfect for thrill-seekers aged 6 to adult, in the magical setting of the Lesser Hall. Please note that the venue does not have wheelchair access. Booking is highly recommended and is £6 per person, as well as normal Castle admission fees for all adults and children which must be paid on the day.

For those looking for an Easter Sunday to remember, head to Castell Henllys on 31 March and enlist for Warrior School with sessions running from 11am. Take up arms and find out how people in the past fought in the Village’s Warrior School, learn to wield a sword and shield and put it into practice against your opponent. Suitable for children aged 7 and over. Additional fee applies plus normal admission.
Delve deeper into the past and discover the secrets, knowledge and wisdom of the Druids of Iron Age Britain with Druid Magic sessions on Wednesday 27 March and 3 April at 11am and 2.30pm. Join a hands-on session to learn some of their secrets, including fire lighting, bread making and face painting. Suitable for children aged 6 and over, £7 per child plus normal admission and booking is essential.
Experience the Iron Age sessions will take place daily from Monday 25 March, with the opportunity to learn about life in prehistoric times from friendly members of the Tribe, watch a demonstration of an ancient craft or skill and have a go with a slingshot – weather permitting. A guided tour of the Village is also included in the admission fee at 11.30am and 2.30pm.
A quieter version of this session, with no loud or noisy activities or demonstrations, will take place on Sunday mornings between 10am and 12noon.
Other school holiday highlights at the Iron Age Village include Fun in the Fort on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am and a guided tour of the site through the medium of Welsh on Saturday 6 April.

If you’re keen to take on a challenge, sign up for the The Lost Words Sensory Trail running at Oriel y Parc between Saturday 23 March and Sunday 7 April. The trail costs £4 per child and a small prize is included.
For the budding gardeners of the next generation, Oriel y Parc’s Wednesday Club! is well worth a visit on Wednesday 27 March, where visitors can join a Grow Some Veg workshop and join in with green-fingered fun. There’ll be the chance to decorate a plant pot and plant a seed to take home and grow. The workshop runs from 11am-3pm on a drop-in basis, at a cost of £4 per child.
