Board endorsement sought for Clinical Services Plan Consultation launch
--
Hywel Dda University Health Board will, at its next meeting on 29 May, seek to endorse the launch of a public consultation on its Clinical Services Plan.
If endorsed, the public consultation will launch on the same day and will seek views on options to deliver care across nine clinical services at Hywel Dda.
Staff, patients, partners, and the wider population will have an opportunity to share their views by completing a questionnaire or attending public events, in-person, or online, during the consultation that will run until 31 August 2025.
Information about the development of the Clinical Services Plan is available on our webpage: https://hduhb.nhs.wales/clinical-services-plan. Pages will be updated with more consultation specific resources, including documents and event details on the 29 May.
The Clinical Services Plan focuses on nine healthcare services that are fragile and in need of change. The services included are critical care, emergency general surgery, stroke, endoscopy, radiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and urology.
These nine clinical services were selected because of risks to them being able to continue to offer safe, high-quality services, or care in a timely manner.
The Clinical Services Plan programme aims to address these fragilities, to provide safe and sustainable care to our communities, improve standards, and reduce waiting times for people needing diagnosis and treatment.
Whilst options are presented in the consultation, there are currently no preferred solutions. The planned consultation is an essential part of the Health Board’s commitment to ensuring that all voices are heard in shaping the future of healthcare in the region.
The consultation will ask people to tell us:
Which of the options you think are best able to address fragilities in our services, improve standards, or reduce waiting times
Concerns you may have about any of the options, or impacts you think they may have
Thoughts you may have on the future role of our hospitals
Anything else you think we need to consider, including alternative options or ideas you may have
Interim Medical Director Mr Mark Henwood said: “We want to hear your views on which options best address the challenges, improve standards, and reduce waiting times. We’re also keen to understand any concerns, impacts, or alternative ideas you may have - including your thoughts on the future role of our main hospitals.”
“As we consider options that will shape the future of nine clinical service areas, I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to share their views, to help us provide the services that can best meet your needs.”
The outcome of the consultation will be considered by the Health Board in November 2025, unless additional time is needed to analyse feedback due to a high level of responses. This could mean it is considered at a later Board meeting.
