Press Release: Have your say on Welsh Water’s future strategy

Proxy (14)
  • Customers and stakeholders are invited to comment on Welsh Water’s draft strategy for the next 25 years.
  • Draft builds on feedback from more than 6,000 customers and considers how to improve services, protect the environment and respond to future challenges while keeping bills affordable.
  • Consultation runs from 15 October to 15 November 2026, with the final strategy due to be published in January 2027.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is inviting customers and stakeholders to help shape its long-term strategy, setting out the outcomes it aims to deliver for customers, communities and the environment over the next 25 years.

The draft follows a customer engagement exercise launched at the Royal Welsh Show in July.  More than 6,000 customers contributed their views at events across Wales over the summer and through an online survey, helping to shape the proposals now being put forward for consultation.

The consultation is an opportunity to comment on the proposed priorities and whether the  plans address the issues that matter most to the people it serves. Customers and stakeholders can read the draft strategy and share their views at https://www.dwrcymruplans.com/our-strategy-for-the-future/ until 15 November.

The strategy will guide long-term investment priorities and how Welsh Water balances improvements to services and environmental performance with affordability over the next 25 years, while also adapting to climate change and strengthening the resilience of water and wastewater services.

Roch Cheroux, Welsh Water’s Chief Executive, said: “Our customers rightly expect us to deliver better services and do more to protect the environment. We are determined that we meet those expectations, improving our performance today while investing wisely for future generations.

“This strategy will set our direction for the next 25 years: securing reliable water supplies, playing our part in delivering cleaner rivers and seas, and keeping services affordable. As a company with no shareholders, we must ensure every pound we invest delivers lasting value for the people and communities we serve. The choices we make now will shape our services for decades. That is why the people who rely on us must have a voice in those decisions.”

Alun Shurmer, Welsh Water’s Chief Strategy and Stakeholder Officer, said: “More than 6,000 customers shared their views over the summer, helping to shape the draft we are publishing today. Their input has directly influenced our priorities and challenged us to be more ambitious.

“We’re grateful for their contribution, but this is not the end of the conversation: we now want customers and stakeholders to scrutinise these proposals and help us strengthen them further. This is still a draft, and there is a real opportunity to influence it before we publish the final strategy in January.”

Welsh Water is already investing more than £4bn in its services between 2025-30.
The investment is funding work to reduce storm overflow spills, upgrade and renew pipes and treatment works, reduce leakage, and improve river water quality.

The new, draft strategy sets out the long-term strategy for Welsh Water and the outcomes it wants to achieve for customers, communities and the environment. The company will consider the feedback received, before publishing a final version in January 2027.
