Volunteer crews from St Davids RNLI had a busy final week of June with two launch requests within 48 hours.
On Tuesday 24th June at 2.04pm, HM Coastguard requested assistance for a 40 foot motor cruiser reported as taking on water south west of the South Bishop lighthouse.
All-weather lifeboat Norah Wortley launched to attend, but at the same time Angle lifeboat crew were diverted from another search and rescue incident off Marloes beach.
With Angle’s Tamar class lifeboat arriving first on scene, and the water ingress not deemed to be significant, St Davids lifeboat was stood down and returned to station whilst Angle lifeboat escorted the vessel to the safety of Milford Marina.
The second request to launch was to a 21 foot motor vessel anchored in the entrance to Solva harbour at 12.52pm on Thursday 26th June. HM Coastguard requested assistance to the solo manned boat on passage from northern France to Ireland, with the owner having limited English language skills making communication difficult.
Both all-weather and inshore lifeboats made best speed to the harbour where a crew member translated concerns for vessel anchorage in an unfamiliar area. It was decided to escort the boat to the RNLI casualty mooring at St Justinians, where it was moored safely before resuming its journey to Ireland this weekend.
