WALES BEING DENIED EVEN MORE FUNDING UNDER LABOUR THAN UNDER THE TORIES

Following the Chancellor’s Comprehensive Spending Review on Wednesday (11/06/2025), Plaid Cymru have criticised the Labour Government for denying Wales of more funding when compared to the Conservative Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review in 2021.
Analysis of the details from yesterday’s Comprehensive Spending Review show that Wales will be worse off by £2.5 billion following a Labour Government spending review, than a Conservative spending review.
Plaid Cymru finance spokesperson, Heledd Fychan MS, also criticised the Welsh First Minister and the Welsh Labour Government for ‘not asking enough’ of their UK Labour Government counterparts, leading to Wales being ‘shortchanged’.
Plaid Cymru finance spokesperson, Heledd Fychan MS, said:
“Whilst the Labour spin machine has been in overdrive, a quick look under the bonnet tells us that Wales is being short-changed yet again.
“In fact, we are not just being short-changed by Labour but being denied even more funding than we were under the Tories.
“The three-year plans set out in the 2021 gave Wales an extra £2.3bn in resource spending each year alongside £0.2bn of extra capital spend – a paltry sum compared to Wales’ needs.
“Fast forward to Labour’s 2025 Spending Review and the figures are £1.3bn extra of resource funding every year for 3 years, alongside £200m of capital spend every year for 4 years.
“In its simplest form, Wales is £2.5bn worse off under a Labour UK Government than we were under a Conservative UK Government 4 years ago.
“These are extraordinary figures which highlight just how little Westminster cares about Wales, whether the government is red or blue.
“Public services, already teetering on the brink in Wales under Labour face further cuts as a consequence of Labour’s First Minister asking for very little and getting exactly that.”
