About Martyn Oughton!

What do you do at Pure West Radio?

Presenter

How did you get into radio?

I started on Hospital Radio Withybush as a teenager in 1986!! I had always had an interest in radio so I jumped at the chance at presenting my own show. Two years later, I carried on by joining the campus radio station at University, presenting a wide range of shows and outside broadcasts. The love of radio and presenting lay dormant for a very long time until the opportunity to join Pure West came up - so I jumped at the chance!

Where is your favourite place in Pembrokeshire?

Broad Haven

Who is your hero?

My presenting hero is Tony Bastable, an ITV presenter from the 70s and 80s. He was a total pro. You have to be a certain age to remember him, though.

What is your biggest fear?

Answering questions about what my biggest fear is - because I don't really have one.

Where is your favourite place to visit in the world?

The world is full of amazing places - not sure I can name just one.

What would you change about yourself if you could?

I'd be a better saxophone player - but I guess that's up to me to practice more.

What really makes you angry?

Tailgating drivers !!!

What motivates you to work hard?

Knowing that what I do is in line with my purpose for being on this Earth.

What is your favourite thing about your life?

Knowing that the rest of my life will be the best of my life.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Being a father to two amazing sons.

Who is the most famous person you've met?

All of the members of Shakatak (kids - ask your parents :))

One thing people might be surprised to know about you?

My first job after leaving college was a bingo caller.

I was a naval reservist for a year - although I never got to go to sea.

I played in a band in the 90s at an outdoor festival to an audience of about 1,000 people.

I used to be in amateur theatre and once played a character who wore nothing but a towel and fake tan, and whose lines were all in Greek!
